Pinwheels for Prevention® Campaign

We all have a role to play in ensuring children have positive experiences and families have the resources they need. April is the national observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAP Month) when we launch our Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. We ask you, your workplace, house of worship, school, or volunteer group to “plant” one or more pinwheel gardens. The pinwheel is joyful and evokes childlike notions, symbolizing our desire for all children to have happy and healthy childhoods.

Wear Blue Day

Every April, on Wear Blue Day we kickoff the observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month by wearing blue to demonstrate our support for children’s well-being. Simply take a photo of yourself, your family, your colleagues, your friends, your volunteer group – or even your puppy – wearing blue and tag PCA-NJ on social media with the message: I’m wearing blue to support happy and healthy childhoods for all children. #WearBlueDay2026. Or email us your photos by 4/06 and we’ll post for you and acknowledge your participation. The 2026 Wear Blue Day date is Friday, April 10.

2026 Big Pinwheel Garden

Every April, PCA-NJ joins our colleagues nationwide to observe Child Abuse Prevention Month via the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. There are many pinwheel gardens “planted” by advocates and supporters throughout NJ’s 21 counties. PCA-NJ also selects prominent locations each year to host a family-friendly Big Pinwheel Garden. In 2026, we invite you to join us as on Friday, April 17 at 10 am as we meet at the historic Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton. We’ll march to the New Jersey Statehouse with our allies at The New Jersey Children’s Alliance and then return to Shiloh Baptist Church to “plant” pinwheels, forming our Big Pinwheel Garden.

Proclamation

You can help promote happy and healthy childhoods by reaching out to the municipality or county where you reside and requesting a Mayoral of Board of County Commissioners proclamation, declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Kindly let us know if you’ve submitted that request. Please see and share the suggested wording we are providing.
